Photo Diary 2010 | Day 30

Today's plan: Go to a friend's house for his birthday gathering then to a club in Leicester Square. I realised why I've avoided going out in Leicester Sq for over 5 years.

Photo Diary 2010 | Day 29

I ♥ Fridays.
In company of friends | Becky, Michelle & Nicki
11:30pm | Café 1001, Brick Lane.
1:00am | Becky - on our way to Fabric, EC1.
I experienced a photographer's nightmare shortly after taking the image above. My fucking battery died! As the night went on I saw things and people that would make interesting photographs, but alas I was unable to capture them.

So I've inserted captions where the photographs would have been, had my battery not died.

4:00am | Inside the Fabric
[Image of the main room inside the club. A sea of people raving to one of the finest jungle DJs, LTJ Bukem]

6:00am | Leaving the club
[Image of Becky, Michelle & Nicki huddled in the cold. It was snowing]

7:00am | Home sweet home, W2

Note to self: ensure batteries are fully charged when leaving the house.

Bayswater | W2
I love how street lights shimmer off the roads on a rainy day.

Andres Fumero | Tell me a story (Jozhy K Remix)

Here's a nice little remix by Jozhy K for you progressive tech-house heads. It's a little on the soft side but it's reminiscent of the period when I first really got in techno and house. Tell Me a Story EP came out on Humano Records a few days ago along with a string of other remixes. Overall a nice tune to end a night of raving to the hard stuff.

To be honestly, there's no real point to this post. This song isn't a new, nor is Tina Dico due to release a new album. I just wanted to share this song.

26 days ago I quit smoking. As the withdrawal of nicotine turned me into an old man with a very bad disposition, snus came to the rescue. Snus is little bag (like a miniature tea bag) of tobacco placed under the upper lip. Once again I'll let Wiki explain:

WIKI: 'Snus is a moist powder tobacco product, consumed by placing it under the lip for extended periods of time. The sale of snus is illegal in the European Union, but due to exemptions, it is still manufactured and consumed primarily in Sweden and Norway.'

Today I was left with one and now none. If I don't get hold of more soon, I fear the old man will return.

This evening I decided to get organised and sort through the random stack of papers in the draws. I didn't get much sorting done. Just ended up looking through old photographs and dodgy sketches.

Sara drew me...

Photo Diary 2010 | Day 24

Sundays being what they are - to watch a DVD from the comfort of my bed was the plan. Still mellow from just waking up, I made a cup of tea and popped in a DVD. I decided to watch a film from one of my favorite directors, Lukas Moodysson. His films tend to be heavy viewing but are amazing! I cannot recommend Lilya 4-Ever enough. However, A Hole In My Heart (Ett hål i mitt hjärta) was not what I expected and I was not prepared for it at all. I was expecting a quirky love story of some sort. This segment from Wiki pretty much sums it up.

Wikipedia: 'The film has gained some controversy in Sweden due to some shocking and disturbing footage, including closeups of vaginal reconstruction surgery. It has also been reported that some of the violent sex scenes are not just acted out but were actually performed during filming. Also features an anal sex scene without the use of lubrication, a masturbation scene with a toothbrush, and an extended scene about the woman's "smelly vagina".'

Here's the trailer - it's surprisingly subdued.

The music industry came to a stand still today as our office experienced a power cut. Well, I like to think it came to a stand still.

The Wildlife Photographer-gate

Scandal shook the world of wildlife photography (!). Jose Luis Rodriguez formerly known as The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 was stripped of his title for (apparently) staging the image that won him the prize. They say the wolf was posing for this picture, basically.
BBC NEWS:The winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year award has been disqualified after judges ruled that the featured wolf was probably a "model".

Judges had gathered evidence and sought the opinions of wolf experts in order to reach their decision.
The experts compared the winning picture to pictures of Ossian, a tame wolf that lives at a zoological park near Madrid called Canada Real.

"You can see several very distinctive markings and the experts all agreed that, yes, it's the same wolf," said Mr Carwardine.

"We disqualified [Mr Rodriguez] and banned him for life from entering the competition again, so I think that sends a strong message."

Mr Carwardine added that Mr Rodruiguez had, throughout the investigation, denied "hiring" Ossian for the photograph. The disqualified photographer maintains that his subject was a wild wolf.

Jose must feel like crap. I imagine, never in a million years did he think the judges would be able to single out the one wolf he used in the image. Harsh luck mate!

It goes without saying that the photograph is amazing, but does this revelation make it less beautiful? Hmm...

Photo Diary 2010 | Day 12

Hi ho, it's off to work we go...

Plan B - Stay Too Long

Plan B has always kept me on my toes with his music. His 'Paint It Blacker' bootleg album was the best I had heard in awhile. He managed to take elements of UK hip hop that I love and combine it with guitar based music - The Rolling Stones, Nirvana and Leonard Cohen to name a few. He also manages to break through the glorious drum & bass scene by collaborating with the almighty Chase & Status - 'Pieces' was a fucking tune.

Plan B is to drop his new album,
'Defamation of Strickland Banks' in March. Until then, he's dropped it's first single, 'Stay Too Long'. Despite bloggers and folks muttering 'sell-out' in an attempt to go mainstream, it's a track worthy of a pat on the back. Especially as he hasn't lost the hype that is so common in his music. Mr B, I anticipate your album!
